The way we use people's information i covered by law. This law is called the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

About me

Personal information means anything that can be used to find out who you are and how to contact you.  This could be:

  • name
  • address
  • telephone number
  • email address
  • date of birth
  • parent/carer name(s)

Ethnicity

We also collect Special Category Data:

  • education, for example, special educational needs (SEN)
  • ethnicity
  • physical/mental health, for example, disabilities

Data

  • identify your child's SENs and/or disability
  • identify the support required, which will help your child/young person to achieve their outcomes
  • identify who we need to speak to so that we can ask them to send us information and advice relating to your child
  • make decisions about whether to make a statutory needs assessment or issue an education, health and care plan (EHCP)

The law

By law, we must hold any necessary personal or special category information about you.

We collect your personal data in many ways.  You might:

  • give us your personal data yourself, by entering your information in a form, on our website
  • by contacting a service or Officer in person, in writing or over the phone

Confidential

The information you share with us is confidential.  We store your information securely.  We only keep your information for as long as the law says we should.

Information kept safe

Sometimes we need to share your information with other people involved with your child/young person.  We do this so that they have the information they need to provide you with the best support possible.  We may share information with:

  • people in the SEND team
  • people from health and/or social care
  • schools and other educational settings
  • other departments within the Council

Your information is shared securely and safely.

You can ask to see the information and data we hold about you by making a Subject Access Request.
