Sensory Impairment Team

Sensory Impairment Team (Cumberland)

Who are we?
The Sensory Impairment (SI) Team works in partnership with Cumberland schools, colleges early years settings and families. The team provides specialist support for children and young people with hearing loss, vision impairment, and multi-sensory impairment.

Support often begins at the point of diagnosis and includes home visiting, helping families to understand and respond to their child’s needs from the earliest stages.

The aim of the service is to promote inclusion by enabling children and young people to access learning, communication, and everyday environments.

What do we do?
The team supports children and young people from early years through to further education, including mainstream schools, specialist settings, and colleges, by:

  • Providing specialist assessment of SI needs
  • Advising on strategies and adaptations to improve access to learning
  • Modelling effective practice in educational settings
  • Supporting EHCP processes and provision planning
  • Delivering training and guidance for staff and families
  • Supporting the provision and effective use of specialist SI equipment

How do I get in touch?
Schools and settings can request support by completing the ‘Request for Involvement’ form available on the Local Offer.
