Post-16 further education process

The purpose of the guidance is to ensure clarity and transparency about the process for agreeing placements. Identifying resources required over £6,000 to provide support in further education, for young people aged 16 to 25 years, with an education, health and care plan (EHCP).

Virtual School and cared for children and young people with SEND

A Virtual School isn’t an actual building or school/setting that children and young people attend. It is a ‘virtual’ school in the Local Authority (LA) that oversees cared for children and young people and their progress. The children and young people attend many different schools and settings.

SEND travel and transport

Your child may be entitled to free transport if they cannot walk to school because of their special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) or mobility problem.

SEN 0 to 5 years

Identifying SEND in a child's early years can be key to helping them access education and reach their potential. Every child grows at their own pace, making it hard to spot special educational needs early on. If you're worried about your child, first talk to their childminder, nursery practitioner, teacher, doctor, or health visitor. These professionals can offer valuable insights and confirm or ease worries about a child's progress.

The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Local Offer is a term introduced by the Government. Every Local Authority (LA) must have a SEND Local Offer.
